On Tuesday, April 7, sexy, hung and versatile in so many ways Jack Wrangler died of complications from lung disease in New York City.  The handsome gay icon of the 70's and 80's was 62 years old.

Wrangler, born John Stillman in 1946, was an instant star when he appeared in "New York Construction Company" in 1970.  He made more than 85 adult films in his career, including the gay classics "Kansas City Trucking Co." (1976) and "Sex Machine" (1980).  More surprising was his very successful foray into straight porn.  He starred in, among others, "Behind the Green Door, the Sequel" (1986) and "The Devil in Miss Jones, Part ii" (1982).

As you can see for yourself in these pics, Wrangler exemplified that amazing 70's and early 80's masculinity and sexuality that still makes most of us, including me, hard as a rock.  These were the men I saw on television shows and commercials (think the marlboro man with his dick hanging out) that I used to beat off to when I was a teenager.  Wrangler's ease with his body and fluid sexuality represented everything opposite from the Reagan-era (and post- AIDS) repression soon to dominate our lives.

Jack was so versatile he married cabaret chanteuse Margaret Whiting in 1994.  She knew he was gay but reportedly said to him "only around the edges."  Their marriage endured, much to the surprise of many, and I think of her today for for having lost someone she clearly loved.  Love comes in many different forms and I see their marriage as a celebration of that.

Well, the GayVN Awards have come and gone and we're disappointed we didn't come away with any wins but offer our whole-hearted congratulations to all the winners announced Saturday night at the Castro Theater in San Francisco.  (See official pics here). This year's award show was a fast-moving, well-orchestrated and often downright hilarious affair and it didn't hurt that every time I looked around there was another hot porn star!  Even after having directed some of these guys in our hot movies, I still get a little star-struck when I meet a them in person.

Of course, I got to see some of our favorite hot daddies we've worked with there -- I ran into sexy, sweet and H-U-N-G Nick Moretti, one of the stars of our newest video Bears in Paradise, at the over-crowded bar upstairs, Jake Mitchell in line at the bathroom (men's line: crazy long, women's line: none at all) and Tim Kelly (also in Bears in Paradise) with Matthew Rush at the after-party.  My editor Kris Fields has had a mad crush on those two ever since she helped edit their hot scene from Brief Encounters (she has their poster on her fridge at home and her boyfriend doesn't seem to mind...) so she was super-excited to meet them in person.  I think pictures were taken but at that point I was on my fourth gin and tonic and my memory is, well, foggy.

But the highlight without a doubt was seeing Janice Dickinson, the self-described world's first super-model (of America's Next Top Model fame) in person.  First, she actually looks better in person than she does on television. She has the body of a 12 year old boy, with breasts, and her crazy-mouth so evident on television seems less crazy in person.  But she... well, I think she is crazy and I LOVE it!  She got up on stage and simply had a blast and clearly said anything that came to her, uhh, mind.  She determined, for example, that she's a top (no doubt) and Margaret Cho is a bottom (to Margaret's famous hand-waving delight), and that Margaret should have won the award for best bottom given out that night.

The best parts, however, were when they had to navigate her down the stairs off the stage -- I'm not sure if she was somehow impaired or simply that her skinny legs were incapable of holding her up.  Janice was a-teetering and I thought for sure we were in for a fall but she made it down and then (here's the best part) she sat down right in front of us!  Janice's mad murmurings continued from her seat and she had a comment about everyone and everything (which, for reasons of propriety, I will not repeat here).  I love you, Janice.  I really do.

I've discovered a way to get my news in a more digestible format: from a sexy, funny daddy-bear named Uncle Jay! Move over John Stewart -- well actually I don't think I could do without Jon Stewart and The Daily Show, but now I have another place for news. He's a bit goofy, but I sure wish I could see him explaining news and world events naked, or at least with his shirt off. OK, maybe just undo one button so we can see a bit of fur?

I've always had a weakness for stocky, balding daddies. They just seem to be brimming over with testosterone. I wonder if Uncle Jay is gay? I don't see a wedding ring on his finger, although these days a wedding ring could just mean he's married to a man. Does anyone know anything more about Uncle Jay? I sure would like to know more about him. In the meantime, I think I'll have to just be satisfied being entertained and informed by this witty and intelligent man.
